Mafia: The Old Country is officially breaking away from the open-world format of Mafia III. Instead, 2K Games has confirmed that this latest entry will focus on a linear, narrative-driven gameplay experience—and fans are here for it.

A Return to Storytelling Roots

In an official FAQ released alongside the game’s announcement trailer and release date, 2K clarified that Mafia: The Old Country will not follow the sandbox-style gameplay that has become common in many AAA titles. This marks a bold departure in 2025 gaming, where most studios continue to double down on massive open worlds and “lifestyle” games.

“We think there’s a large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments,” said 2K President David Ismailer. “We’re excited to offer a game like Mafia: The Old Country—a polished, linear narrative that complements the more persistent games our players enjoy.”

This signals a return to the cinematic storytelling that made the original Mafia games fan favorites.

Mafia: The Old Country Price, Editions, and Bonuses

The base game will retail at $50, making it more affordable than many new-gen releases. A Deluxe Edition, priced at $60, includes additional digital content:

Setting: Welcome to 1900s Sicily

The story unfolds in early 1900s Sicily, where players will step into the shoes of Enzo Favara, a rising mobster navigating the dangerous underworld. The game promises to feel like a classic mob movie, filled with unpredictable allies and ruthless enemies.

Combat will include intense gunfights and close-quarters action using shotguns, knives, and more. Traversing the Sicilian countryside will also bring variety, with players riding horseback or driving vintage cars to complete missions.
